Paradise In Palm Springs

This holiday weekend, I went from the Arizona desert to the California desert to check out the 2020 Paradise Roadshow. I remember going to the first show in 2016. Then, it was a dinky little show held around the pool of the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs that wasn’t on too many people’s radars. Now, it’s grown and moved to the Saguaro Hotel where it felt like there was a lot more breathing room.

Part of what makes Paradise Roadshow so special is that it’s taking the car and motorcycle show back to its roots. Unlike a lot of other chopper shows, the crowd is genuinely there to check out the bikes and cars, not to stand around and look cool. There’s hardly any “show” bikes on display and it’s obvious that the vast majority of motorcycles there have actually been ridden a lot. The same goes for the cars. Everyone is there to check out cool shit and have a good time, not to try and be “seen”.

While the motorcycles were contained to the pool area of the Saguaro Hotel, the vintage cars and hot rods spilled out into the hotel parking lot. My favorite car of the show was a gorgeous pink 1968 convertible Mustang with a fuzzy pink dashboard.

We stayed at Infusion Beach Club just a couple of miles from the show. It’s a small motel that’s been converted into a pretty cool spot to stay. There’s always a party going on at the pool and they’ve even made a little beach oasis in the desert on their grounds. The rooms were actually cheaper than a majority of AirBnBs in the area. I definitely recommend a stay if you’re looking for somewhere cool that won’t break the bank.

Just because I’ve grown up doesn’t mean I’ve grown out of wearing band tees. It just means that I wear them with more than just skinny jeans and Vans now.

One thing I really love about 80s hair metal bands is how outrageous they dressed and acted. Bands like Guns N Roses were the epitome of sex, drugs, & rock n’ roll. The band’s love of leather, ripped denim, and studs is still major fashion inspiration for me.

I’m channelling serious rock n’ roll cowboy vibes with this outfit. I got this studded felt brim hat from The Kooples during one of the end-of-season sales a few years back. I’m rocking my favorite Hexagon frame sunglasses from Ray-Ban. I feel like I’ve had this leopard coat forever, and I definitely bought it before it was “cool”. I totally admit that I stole my Guns N Roses shirt from one of my friends when I lived in LA, but I do have tons of other band tees at my disposal as well. I absolutely love my flared jeans from Frame. They make my legs look super long and my ass look good. A leather western belt from B-Low The Belt and western-style leather wedge boots from Jeffrey Campbell really give the look that edgy cowboy feel.

Here Comes 2020

At the risk of sounding like a total cliche jackass, I really am planning to make 2020 my year.

Last year was so crazy hectic that I can’t believe it’s already over. I was definitely caught in a whirlwind of major life changes last year. Now that I’ve kind of gotten settled, I really want to focus of making the ’20s, awesome.

Generally, I don’t really like going out to typical “party” holidays. It always seems like everyone is so stressed out about having plans and having fun and just end up feeling bored or like they’re missing out on something else. Everywhere you go is expensive and packed with people, and it’s amateur hour with people drinking way too much.

This year, instead of going out, I decided to enjoy my new place that I’ve worked so hard for. I bumped some music, lit some candles, and enjoyed some champagne and chocolate instead of going out and gong crazy. It was actually really nice to enjoy a quiet night in with the people (and pets) that I really care about instead of trying to go somewhere crazy just to post it to Instagram or something.

Of course I have some New Years resolutions too:

  1. Eat more vegan whole foods
  2. Pay off my credit card
  3. Start the coverup tattoos on my legs
  4. Finish furnishing my new place
