Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Product Review: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Overall Rating: ☾☾☾

Disclaimer: I did receive my Laura Mercier Foundation Primer complimentary from Laura Mercier and Influenster. However, all of the opinions on this product review are my own. This review is 100% honest. F*ck selling out.

Foundation primer is definitely one of those things that can make or break your foundation application. It’s also one of those things that’s definitely not one-size-fits-all. Always looking to find another great primer for my skin, I tried the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.

Pros

The Laura Mercier Foundation Primer is a water-based vitamin-rich gel, which means it’s actually good for your skin. Being water-based, it feels cooling and soothing, which is great for those with dry and irritated skin. It goes on more like a light moisturizer rather than a foundation primer. I was getting some serious Murad Nutrient Rich Water Gel flashbacks when applying this primer. It did leave my skin feeling smooth and even before foundation application.

Cons

While Laura Mercier was perviously a cruelty-free company, I recently found out that they were bought by Shiseido, a company that does test on animals. According to Laura Mercier’s policy:

“Laura Mercier is committed to the elimination of animal testing. We are equally committed to consumer health and safety, and bringing to market products that comply with applicable regulations in every country in which our products are sold.”

As you may know, some countries, like China, do require non-Chinese companies to agree to animal testing on their products. Laura Mercier is also not listed on Cruelty Free Kitty’s 2018 list of cruelty-free brands.

As for product itself, the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer was soothing and smoothing, however, it was no match for my oily skin. It did little to control my oils or prevent shine. However, I would be interested in trying this product again in the winter, when my skin actually ends up becoming a bit dry. If you have normal or dry skin, I would probably recommend this primer, but not if you have oily skin like myself.

TL;DR: Overall, I give the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer a 3/5. While it creates a smooth canvas for foundation application, it was no match for my oily skin. Still, I would recommend this product for those with normal or dry skin. I would definitely be interested in trying this product out again in the winter, when my skin is dry.
