Disclaimer: I did receive my Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara complimentary from Hourglass and Influenster. However, all of the opinions on this product review are my own. This review is 100% honest. F*ck selling out.
Mascara brands are one of those things that I’ve never had a lot of loyalty to. While I’ve found some mascaras that work better than others, I still haven’t found my “holy grail” mascara. When I received the Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara, I was definitely down to try it.
The Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara claims to add length, volume, and lift to your lashes, giving them that dramatic and “extreme look”. One of the things I liked about this mascara was the wand. I normally have shorter blonde lashes that are barely even visible without mascara on. Because I have shorter lashes, big, round mascara brushes give me a lot of trouble. This is the exact reason why I’m not a fan of Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. The wand on my Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara is big enough to create volume, but still small enough to get to the roots of all my short lashes.
I also really loved the packaging. At $29, it’s not the cheapest mascara in the world, but the packaging makes it feel like a real luxury product. I’m sure its triangle shape is a play on a caution sign, but it actually made the mascara more comfortable to hold. Also, I’m always a big fan of anything black and gold.
This mascara also definitely does give my lashes some lift. It really made my eyes look more open, even without using a lash curler.
I honestly found the Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara formula to be a bit clumpy, which is something I tend to notice with mascaras that claim to give you more volume. When I tried the mascara on my bare lashes, I had major clumping problems, especially in the outer corners of my eyes. However, when I used my lash primer first, I did find it to be a little less clumpy. On its own, I also felt like this mascara didn’t give me a lot of length. However, it seemed to work a lot better over my lash primer as well.
TL;DR: Overall, I give the Hourglass Extreme Caution Lash Mascara a 3/5. While I found the formula to be a bit on the clumpy side, I did find that it worked much better on top of my lash primer than on its own. I also really liked the design of the wand and the packaging.
