New Year, New Tattoo

New year, new me! Just kidding.

While I'm definitely not a "new year, new me" girl, I did think it was a good idea to start 2017 off right with a new (and very visible) tattoo. This tattoo was actually a Christmas present from my boyfriend. We've decided to just get each other tattoos for Christmas and birthdays to make it easier. I did want to wait until after the holidays though, so I wouldn't have some super sensitive fresh tattoo being squeezed by all my family members.

I didn't really know what I wanted, but I did know where I wanted the placement to be. While I've had tattoos since I was 18, they were always in spots that were hidden under my clothes. I decided that I finally wanted a tattoo in a more visible place. Although I'm on the taller side, I do have a very petite frame and very skinny arms, so I couldn't really imagine anything that would fit on my upper arm. Luckily, Justin Hobson at Dana Point Tattoo was able to work with my small canvas. I went through a few pictures I found online for ideas and ultimately decided on something with snakes and peonies. Snakes are linear which worked well for skinny, linear areas and the peonies were feminine but different from the rose I have on my back. I sent Justin the reference pictures, told him a few things I definitely didn't want, and left the rest up to him.

Fast forward to 6 1/2 hours later, and I had this beautiful half sleeve. Out of all my tattoos, this was the second least painful (the least painful being script on my ribs under my left breast). Now, I'm in the itchy, flaking, healing stage of the tattoo. Due to the fact that the snakes are so dark, I'll probably have to go back for a half-hour touch-up in a few weeks, but I'm really glad Justin was able to bust out a whole half-sleeve in half a day. I'm not a big fan of having half-finished tattoos and they always hurt more the second time around, in my opinion.
