(Un)Stable Footing

Gloomy June days are the best days to go to the beach in Malibu. While it's still warm, the gloomy skies keep a lot of fair weather Californians, and tourists, away from the beaches. Gloomy days also give you the chance to play with layers during the summer. If you don't like sand or ocean water, you can still enjoy being at the beach by checking out a, ocean side trail.

For this gloomy weather beach outfit, I still wore my sunglasses because my eyes are so sensitive to light. I took an old distressed tee and knotted the bottom if it, turning it into a crop top. Then, I paired the tee with a pair of Bandit shorts from One Teaspoon. I seriously love One Teaspoon shorts because they're cut in such a way that they make your legs look slimmer and don't expose everything by hiking up as you walk. I threw a cream-colored knit cardigan from Free People on over the tee and shorts to create layering, while still keeping it light and summer-y. Lastly, because I wasn't going to be going in the sand or water, I wore my favorite snake print booties from Jeffrey Campbell.

When pairing booties with shorts or skirts, it's important to see where on your ankle the top of the booties hit. If they go up too high above your ankle, your legs will look shorter. If they're too low below your ankle, it just looks like you're wearing sneakers. I've found that wearing booties that stop just a tiny bit above my ankle bones give my legs the best look, but it's different for everyone.
